Wake Tech East deploys two 500-ton chillers with Carrier

The customer, Wake Tech East, needed to build a highly efficient and decarbonized central energy plant for its campus that could integrate heating and cooling technologies in a novel way. Their challenge was to move beyond a traditional plant design to meet ambitious sustainability goals while also creating a functional learning environment. Vendor Carrier Global worked with them to implement a solution using AquaEdge® 19DV centrifugal chillers.

Carrier implemented a system using two 500-ton AquaEdge® 19DV centrifugal chillers that function as both chillers and heat pumps. This integrated approach from Carrier allowed the plant to efficiently distribute both hot and chilled water from a common set of equipment, achieving notably high sustainability and energy efficiency. The award-winning facility now serves its operational goals and acts as a hands-on classroom for building talent in advanced sustainability practices.
