Mount Vernon protects a million visitors a year with Carrier

Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington, faced a significant challenge in preserving its delicate artifacts and wooden structure due to the humid Virginia climate and its 18th-century construction. The estate needed a climate control system that could not alter the building's appearance or have visible equipment nearby. They turned to Carrier Global for a solution.

Carrier implemented a unique custom system using air handlers in underground vaults, a Carrier air-cooled reciprocating chiller hidden by trees, and discreet ductwork routed through closets and fireplaces. The solution included WeatherMaker central air conditioners with Puron refrigerant and sensors to automatically monitor and adjust the interior environment. This allowed Mount Vernon to protect its artifacts, host special exhibitions, and continue welcoming over a million visitors annually, successfully preserving the national landmark for the future.
