Grand Rapids Children’s Museum creates a first-of-its-kind mental health exhibit with CARNEVALE

The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum (GRCM) faced the challenge of creating its first technology-driven exhibit, "Weathering Emotions," which needed to help children process emotions through a weather metaphor. The museum required a partner to design and build three accessible, bilingual, and durable interactive stations that were sensitive to mental health topics. They partnered with CARNEVALE for its integrated design and software development services to bring this complex vision to life.

CARNEVALE designed and developed three integrated digital-physical stations that were fully accessible, featuring multi-sensory interactions and bilingual content. The solution successfully helped GRCM become the first children’s museum in the U.S. to create an interactive mental health exhibit, setting new standards for accessibility and engagement. The exhibit's innovative design was recognized by its inclusion in the West Michigan Graphic Design Archives, and it created a valuable framework for the museum's future interactive projects.
