A Carl Zeiss Case Study
Starlim//sterner, a leading global processor of liquid silicone for injection molding, faced the challenge of predicting how its silicone parts would behave under stress. This lack of predictability prolonged its development process, as it had to rely on time-consuming and sometimes destructive methods for quality inspection. To gain insight into the interior of its products, the company turned to vendor Carl Zeiss and its METROTOM computed tomography system.
The solution implemented by Carl Zeiss was the non-contact, non-destructive ZEISS METROTOM 800 computer tomograph. This allowed Starlim//sterner to see inside its workpieces and understand material behavior under real conditions, which was crucial for optimization. As a result, Carl Zeiss helped the customer reduce its development time for a specific project by 50% and substantially increase the service life and homogeneous quality of its products, which are produced in volumes of hundreds of millions annually.
