Robert Bosch GmbH speeds measurement results to 6 minutes with Carl Zeiss

Robert Bosch GmbH, a major automotive supplier, faced a significant challenge in ensuring the quality of its complex claw pole components, which are critical parts in vehicle alternators. The intricate geometries of the parts, especially in a new generation that delivered more power, made them impossible to inspect with traditional manual gauging methods, which were also time-consuming and prone to error. To address this, Bosch turned to vendor Carl Zeiss and its DuraMax coordinate measuring machine.

The solution implemented by Carl Zeiss involved installing two DuraMax machines directly on the production shopfloor. This allowed Bosch to test the complex geometries right in production. The results were substantially increased reliability and quality of measurement results. The measurable impact was a reduction in inspection time from half a day to just six minutes per part, the virtual elimination of operator influence, and the ability to reliably inspect 37 different types of claw poles.
