Össur measures 17 parts per hour with Carl Zeiss

Ossur, an Icelandic manufacturer of high-tech prosthetics, faced the challenge of measuring complex component geometries with extremely tight tolerances to ensure product quality. The vendor, Carl Zeiss, provided a solution using coordinate measuring machines to meet these demanding precision requirements.

The solution implemented by Carl Zeiss involved two ZEISS coordinate measuring machines, the CONTURA and the O-INSPECT, along with ZEISS CALYPSO and PiWeb software. This allowed Ossur to automate measurements, drastically reduce manual inspection time, and gain insights from data analysis. The results included improved production quality, the ability to manufacture complex components in-house, and a significant increase in measurement efficiency, with at least 17 different parts measured every hour.
