Horst Scholz speeds tool corrections 5 months faster with Carl Zeiss

Horst Scholz GmbH & Co. KG, a plastics processing company specializing in high-precision injection molding, faced a challenge with time-consuming and error-prone corrections to its injection-molded tools. Manually evaluating deviations between scan data and CAD data in Excel led to many correction loops, delaying production. To address this, the company implemented ZEISS Reverse Engineering software from vendor Carl Zeiss.

The ZEISS Reverse Engineering solution processed 3D point clouds to detect underlying geometries and convert measurement data into exact CAD models with integrated functions for tool manufacture. This allowed Horst Scholz to reduce correction loops dramatically; for a complex patch pump tool, they needed only two loops instead of five or more. As a result, batch production started over five months earlier than normal, and the vendor's software is now used on approximately 15% of all customer orders to push technical limits while maintaining quality and cost efficiency.
