The University of Utrecht Medical Center was facing significant challenges with uncontrolled storage growth that consistently exceeded its budget. Their existing NAS solutions were unable to scale effectively, both technically and economically, leading to the creation of costly and inefficient ad hoc storage islands. These issues created a liability for the organization and hindered their operations.

To address this, the medical center implemented a solution from vendor Caringo, utilizing Dell DX storage and Content File Server on Dell servers. This unified storage for three separate departments and provided both RESTful and file-based access via CIFS/NFS. As a result, Caringo helped the center achieve a reduction in all aspects of total cost of ownership, infrastructure, and management. The solution enabled linear scaling to tens of petabytes with a reliable cost per capacity and successfully eliminated the problematic storage islands.
