The University of Utrecht Uses Object Storage to Archive Raw Research Data

The University of Utrecht's Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics group needed to archive very large amounts of raw research data on a limited budget. Their challenge included meeting long-term archive requirements and sharing data across their existing network. They turned to vendor Caringo to address these storage needs.

Caringo implemented its Swarm Object Storage software on Dell servers. This solution integrated with the university's Active Directory and used metadata for future projects, while its built-in disaster recovery replicated data to a remote site. The results included a decreased cost of storage infrastructure, reduced administrative overhead, and twice the file access speed, all while providing an expansion-ready archive.
