Riverside City College (RCC) faced challenges in meeting the mental health care needs of its 20,000+ students. The institution's single licensed mental health therapist, Kevin Wurtz, struggled to provide consistent care due to the large student population. Key challenges included an inability to find quality referrals matched to student insurance, limitations with existing partners, and the fact that students rarely followed through on referrals when navigating the complex system on their own. RCC partnered with Care Solace to find a solution.

Care Solace implemented its Warm Handoff referral process using its Care Loop software. This allowed for easy, trackable referrals made collaboratively with students. The vendor's Care Companion team provided rapid, persistent follow-up, drastically increasing appointment rates. Care Solace saved staff over 12,500 communications, equating to 156+ work days, and achieved a 50% appointment booking rate—a 178% increase over the national average. They also successfully connected students with Medicaid, no coverage, and from the BIPOC community to quality care.
