A Carbonite Case Study
The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties in Tacoma, WA, a large non-profit fitness and community organization that must operate almost every day of the year, faced persistent problems with scattered physical servers and unreliable DFS synchronization across 11 branch offices. Because closing or taking systems offline would disrupt programs and the community, the IT team needed a centralized, scalable upgrade with near-zero downtime.
The team deployed a Nutanix Acropolis hyper‑converged cluster and used Carbonite Migrate to sync and move 11 physical and 15 Hyper‑V servers while in production, completing the transition in about three weeks with only minutes of downtime. The upgrade eliminated DFS, stabilized the environment, cut hardware licensing and maintenance costs (saving roughly $25,000 in the first year), and enabled higher availability and greater operational efficiency.
