A Carbonite Case Study
Quantitative Investment Management (QIM), a Charlottesville-based investment manager with over $2 billion AUM, must keep its trading and order-tracking systems running without interruption because even minutes of downtime can mean lost opportunities and substantial labor costs. With servers and disks vulnerable to crashes, power loss or maintenance, QIM needed a reliable way to protect both its data and applications and avoid the significant human-resource burden that outages create.
QIM deployed Carbonite DoubleTake Availability to replicate changes from three virtualized Windows production servers in Virginia to offsite recovery servers in New Jersey in real time, complementing SQL mirroring to ensure continuous availability. The solution installed quickly (now as fast as 10 minutes), delivered seamless failovers during an actual hardware failure and routine drills, and provided responsive support—resulting in virtually eliminated application downtime, real‑time data protection, large labor savings for every hour of downtime avoided, and peace of mind.
