A Carbonite Case Study
OpenText, a global information management leader, faced a major data-protection challenge after acquiring Carbonite and Webroot and shifting 98% of its workforce to remote work in early 2020. With more than 13,000 Windows and 600 Macs in use worldwide, the company needed an automated, enterprise-grade backup to protect against ransomware, accidental deletion and the vulnerabilities of home networks—moving away from error-prone user-managed backups and ad hoc USB archives.
OpenText deployed Carbonite Endpoint across its global estate, leveraging 256-bit encryption, client-side deduplication, seven-country vaults for compliance (including GDPR), and compatibility with SCCM and JAMF for rapid rollout. The centralized, silent backup running continuous scans simplified administration and recovery: the team reported a faultless deployment to 13,000+ endpoints, saved hundreds of IT hours, completed 200 restores in the first five months (often under 10 minutes), and gained legal-hold and asset-transfer capabilities for stronger, more efficient data protection.
