Selle Italia and Prototek Create More Comfortable Performance Saddles for Elite Cyclists

Selle Italia, a saddle manufacturer, sought to develop a higher-performance, more comfortable bicycle saddle for elite cyclists. Their challenge was to find a material that was supportive, breathable, and grippy, while also needing a partner to handle the design and production using additive manufacturing. They partnered with Carbon's production network member, Prototek, to leverage Carbon'sDigital Light Synthesis technology.

The solution involved using Carbon's EPU 41 material to create a multi-zonal lattice design that met all performance requirements. Prototek utilized Carbon's L1 printers to manufacture the saddles. As a result, Selle Italia successfully launched five 3D-printed product lines, with over 15,000 saddles produced. This innovation significantly boosted interest from tech-savvy customers and led to their saddles being adopted by professional riders in major cycling tours.
