A Carbon Case Study
Kú Cycle, a Dutch-based cycling company focused on optimizing rider fit and performance, wanted to upgrade its TF1 triathlon bike with higher-performing custom components while keeping its built-to-order model cost-efficient. Working with Carbon and its production partner QDP B.V., Kú needed a manufacturing approach that could produce small-series, end-use parts without the expense and delay of injection molding.
Carbon and QDP used the Carbon idea-to-production platform and Carbon Design Engine to develop three custom bike parts: latticed arm pads, lattice grips, and rigid shifter clips. The solution enabled rapid iteration, with first prototypes in two weeks and production starting within a month, cutting overall development time by two months and reducing lead time per order by two months versus traditional tooling. The upgraded TF1 has been well received by athletes, and Kú now plans to produce 500–1,000 bikes over the next 12 to 18 months.
