Design Dental, a small dental lab led by Trey Ford, needed to dramatically increase throughput to stay competitive as the industry shifted to digital workflows. The lab turned to Carbon and its Digital Light Synthesis™ (Carbon DLS™) 3D printing technology to replace its traditional analog production process and support its move into digital dentistry.
By adopting Carbon’s printers and scaling to three systems, Design Dental grew production from 150 analog arches in 2019 to 1,142 digital arches in 2023, with only modest staff growth. Carbon’s technology improved part quality and accuracy, reduced finishing bottlenecks, enabled a four-day workweek, and helped the lab expand efficiently enough that it did not need a second finisher until 2024.
