Bridging Production of Breakthrough ENT Technology to Speed Up Time to Market

Preceptis Medical developed the Hummingbird® Tympanostomy Tube System (TTS) to let ENT surgeons place ear tubes in-office without general anesthesia, addressing a common pediatric procedure that traditionally required an operating room. To bridge prototype-to-volume production and meet strict biocompatibility and sterilization requirements, Preceptis Medical worked with Carbon (via production partner Resolution Medical) using Carbon Digital Light Synthesis™ (Carbon DLS™) and the biocompatible MPU 100 material.

Carbon’s DLS process and MPU 100 enabled Resolution Medical to provide on‑demand, like‑molded bridge production—producing several thousand Hummingbird devices while tooling was completed—and supported very fast design iteration (eight housing variants in one week; three internal-component iterations in one day). The result was accelerated time to market, FDA 510(k) clearance for in‑office use in children six months and older, reduced need for general anesthesia, lower costs and improved patient experience, with Carbon’s technology delivering the material performance and scalability Preceptis required.
