Case Study: Ash Grove reduces cement emissions with Carbon Upcycling's CUT CO₂ System

A Carbon Upcycling Technologies Case Study

Ash Grove to produce 30,000 tonnes of low-carbon SCM annually with Carbon Upcycling

Ash Grove, a CRH company and a pioneer in the North American cement industry, faced a heavy reliance on imported supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs), which drove up costs and delayed critical infrastructure projects. Carbon Upcycling partnered with them to deploy its CUT CO₂ System technology to address this challenge.

The solution implemented by Carbon Upcycling was the world’s first commercial carbon capture and utilization to cement facility. This facility produces a high-quality SCM from steel slag while sequestering CO₂ from the cement kiln. Once operational in 2026, Carbon Upcycling's system will produce up to 30,000 tonnes of SCMs annually and reduce or avoid approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO₂, establishing a resilient, domestic supply of low-carbon materials for Canada.
