University of Arkansas Cuts Through Complexity to Strengthen Security While Enabling Open Network Access for Unrestricted Learning

The University of Arkansas needed a more reliable, efficient and flexible network security solution after campus growth caused its legacy firewall to become a choke point. Carahsoft delivered the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform (including Threat Prevention, URL Filtering/PAN-DB, WildFire and Panorama) to enable open network access across campus while protecting core data center assets.

Carahsoft implemented multiple Palo Alto next‑generation firewalls (deployed in high‑availability pairs for campus and data centers, integrated with VMware NSX) and centralized threat services. The deployment enabled secure, unrestricted access, cut firewall rules from about 1,000 to 100, produced virtually no false positives, improved visibility for faster incident response, and democratized security management across teams.
