Lumo Energy, an Australian energy retailer operating multiple power stations, needed to extend its custom SCADA system to gain real-time visibility into plant infrastructure and react to market price fluctuations to maximize revenue and improve operational efficiency. To address this, Lumo Energy engaged Carahsoft to deploy Splunk Enterprise for automated monitoring of AEMO pricing feeds, telemetry logs, Modbus and SCADA events and to support IT, application delivery and IoT use cases.

Carahsoft implemented Splunk Enterprise with custom data collection, rapid-polling of AEMO, on-site Splunk instances and dashboards that index telemetry, run Lumo-specific analyses and feed proposals to PLCs. The deployment delivered real-time operational visibility, faster responsiveness to price swings, optimized revenue, increased cost savings, improved capacity planning and measurable gains in troubleshooting and resource optimization for Lumo Energy.
