The Illinois Student Assistance Commission faced siloed student and partner data, a paper-based budget review process, and legacy systems that made timely regulatory changes difficult — all of which hurt the student and partner experience. To address this, ISAC worked with Carahsoft to deploy the Liferay platform as a unified portal solution (GAP Access) to consolidate data, simplify authentication, and provide modern, mobile-friendly student and partner experiences.

Carahsoft’s Liferay-based solution delivered single sign-on, unified data management and a digital budget submission workflow that serves 140 colleges and agencies. The platform empowered business users to run reports and administer processes without IT, enabled IT to meet change requests on time 98% of the time, reduced multistep data sharing to “the press of a button,” and improved student web experiences — earning ISAC an Honorable Mention in the 2013 DEAA.
