The Federal Bureau of Prisons faced a nationwide refresh of its backup infrastructure, needing to upgrade aging libraries to LTO‑5 drives and to encrypt sensitive inmate and healthcare records across many sites. Carahsoft worked with the agency to provide Spectra tape library solutions—Spectra T950, T200 and T50e libraries—with LTO‑5 drives, media and BlueScale Encryption to meet those security and capacity requirements.

Carahsoft’s deployment of 113 Spectra libraries (1 T950, 2 T200 and 110 T50e) with BlueScale Encryption Standard delivered nearly one petabyte of secure, uniformly managed backup capacity across BOP locations. The solution centralized encryption key management, simplified administration, reduced staff involvement, and ensured reliable protection of financial, policy and prisoner data while enabling scalable, high‑availability tape archival and recovery.
