A Captricity Case Study
Captricity helped the city of Flint, Michigan, tackle a public health crisis caused by lead leaching from aging pipes. The city lacked reliable, searchable records of where service lines and plumbing fixtures were located, and needed a highly accurate way to extract data from hundreds of thousands of handwritten documents so no homes were missed.
Captricity deployed a beta version of its READ engine to digitize 140,000 handwritten service-line records and invoices, extracting data accurately despite difficult handwriting. The digitized records were enriched with third‑party data and fed into business intelligence tools to prioritize pipe replacements and guide excavation timing, focusing efforts where they would benefit the most homes.
