A CapsuleTech Case Study
The Deaconess Hospital Schladming, a modern 126‑bed hospital in Austria, wanted to consolidate workflows by extending its hospital information system to include patient data management and automated, real‑time capture of vital signs. The challenge was to achieve secure interoperability between diverse biomedical devices and the hospital’s alarm and IT systems while reducing manual charting and nursing workload.
They implemented Capsule’s Medical Device Information System (MDIS) and the Capsule Neuron 2, which securely collects device data (monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps), generates HL7 exchanges, and integrates vitals directly into the HIS. The solution required minimal training, improved bedside device-status visibility, sped up and secured documentation, reduced staff stress, and enhanced diagnostic accuracy and patient care — making Schladming an early European adopter of the technology.
