McLaren Port Huron Overcomes Device Integration Challenges with a Streamlined Meditech/SmartLinx Solution

McLaren Port Huron is a 186-bed nonprofit community hospital in Michigan with a long history of clinical excellence. When the hospital replaced its EHR with a Meditech MU2 system, its existing ICU medical device integration (MDI) method was no longer supported. The hospital needed a reliable, scalable and cost-effective MDI that could perform patient‑device association via location matching, support existing devices and be implemented in an eight‑week window by a small in‑house team while the ICU remained in continuous operation.

McLaren Port Huron implemented Capsule’s Medical Device Information System (MDIS), which was configured to match device data to patients after registration and bed assignment and transmit it to Meditech. The deployment used 13 bedside Capsule Neuron™ 2 units to integrate GE/Marquette Solar 8000 monitors and Puritan Bennett 840 ventilators, was completed on schedule without nurses having to record bedside data manually, and improved ICU efficiency, data timeliness, clinician focus and staff satisfaction. The system’s broad driver library and flexibility position the hospital to expand device integration across the facility.
