Expanding Successful Medical Device Integration with Capsule MDIS

Washington Health System, a regional provider with more than 2,300 clinicians operating a 260-bed hospital, a 49-bed community hospital and 39 off-site sites of care, sought to reduce the large amount of nurse time spent manually recording and then entering vital signs into its Allscripts Sunrise EHR. The initial goal was to improve efficiency and accuracy in a new 26‑bed critical care unit, give physicians anytime access to monitor data, and pilot a low‑disruption solution that could scale across the enterprise.

The system deployed Capsule’s Neuron bedside platform and Chart Xpress application (integrated with an Allscripts enterprise device integration license) to capture device data wirelessly or wired and post it directly to the EHR. The one‑week rollouts into six nursing units delivered faster, more accurate charting, higher end‑user satisfaction (4.06/5), reduced paper, happier clinicians, and created a foundation for meaningful‑use and CPOE initiatives while providing the flexibility to expand and upgrade over time.
