A CapsuleTech Case Study
CHU Clermont-Ferrand, a three‑site university hospital with 1,932 beds, launched a digital transformation to free clinicians—especially nurses—from time‑consuming manual charting of bedside device data so they could spend more time on direct patient care. The hospital needed a connectivity solution that could integrate a wide range of medical devices and communication protocols to improve record accuracy and streamline workflows.
They implemented the Capsule Medical Device Information Platform (MDIP), a unified device‑connectivity platform, first in the resuscitation unit and later across 10 additional units, 35 mobile monitors and a 35‑bed pneumology ward. Capsule automated the transfer of vital signs into the EMR, delivering measurable gains: nurses gained about 9 minutes of patient time per day (roughly one week saved per year), 56% more vitals were recorded in the EMR, 64% of vital signs were transmitted automatically, and staff reported reduced stress and better patient monitoring — prompting plans to expand the rollout.
