Capsule's SmartLinx MDIS helps University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences med-surg do more with less

Capsule MDIS, a Qualcomm Life product, was deployed at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to address mounting challenges in its nearly 300-bed med-surg units. With rising patient acuity, shorter stays, increasing documentation and compliance demands, workforce shortages, and time-consuming manual device transcription—combined with a constrained budget during an Epic EMR rollout—UAMS needed a way to improve data timeliness and clinical efficiency without costly hardware or device replacements.

UAMS implemented 65 Capsule Neuron 2 mobile clinical computers running Capsule Chart Xpress to transmit physiologic data and patient context directly into Epic. The solution reduced charting from hours to seconds, improved EHR accuracy and timeliness, automated safety and compliance reporting, leveraged a wide driver library to avoid replacing devices, and freed nurses to spend more time on higher-acuity patients—raising care capacity and perceived safety without increasing staffing costs.
