A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Yarmarka Shopping Center in Ukhta, Russia, needed a cost-effective, reliable energy source for its new mall. Rather than relying on expensive utility power, the customer chose Capstone Green Energy’s onsite Capstone Microturbine combined heat and power (CHP) solution to meet growing electricity and heating demands.
Capstone Green Energy implemented a phased CHP system using one C1000 power package and ten C65 microturbines, supported by heat recovery units. The system now supplies all power and heat to the shopping center, delivering nearly 1,700 kW of electricity and 2,330 kW of thermal energy at up to 90% efficiency. Power costs were reduced to less than half of utility costs, with the first stage achieving a 2.5-year payback and the full project expected to pay back in five years.
