Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) - Customer Case Study

The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Rubi, Spain, needed a better way to use the biogas it produced. Previously, much of the gas was used only to heat the digester, with the excess being flared, creating an opportunity for a more efficient energy solution. Capstone Green Energy provided microturbine technology to help the plant convert biogas into usable heat and power.

Capstone Green Energy installed three CR65 60kW microturbines with an external heat exchanger, creating a micro-cogeneration system that re-evaluates the plant’s biogas for onsite energy use. The result was significant savings on electricity bills and the ability to cover peak daytime demand, while also improving the overall efficiency of biogas use at the WWTP.
