Utility Software Company - Customer Case Study

Utility Software Company needed a resilient power solution for its new five-story, 110,000-square-foot office building and mission-critical data center in Bloomington, Minnesota. Capstone Green Energy’s microgrid technology was selected to address the challenge of ensuring reliable uptime and providing the resiliency the utility grid could not guarantee, especially during outages.

Capstone Green Energy implemented a microgrid centered on a 600 kW Capstone C600 Signature Series natural-gas microturbine, paired with a 200-ton absorption chiller, a hot water heat exchanger, solar panels, wind turbines, battery storage, and a diesel backup generator. The system operates islandable from the grid, with the microturbine running 24/7 as the backbone and supporting combined cooling, heating, and power for improved efficiency; the customer also plans to expand capacity to 1,000 kW as demand grows, without changing the system footprint.
