A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
UPSource, working with Capstone Green Energy, supported a U.S. Government Office in the Southern United States that needed a more reliable power source for a sensitive laboratory after hurricanes and utility outages had repeatedly disrupted operations. The site also wanted better control over energy costs and protection for critical national-security-related work.
Capstone Green Energy implemented a UPSource onsite power system featuring six C65 microturbines, providing up to 390 kW of continuous power in an N+1 configuration. Two units run continuously, while the others support critical building and lab loads during outages; heat recovery modules also capture waste heat for hot water and heating, eliminating the need for a secondary boiler system. The result was nearly “eight 9s” of reliability, reduced dependence on the utility grid, and more efficient combined power and heat generation.
