University of Toledo - Customer Case Study

The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, needed a more efficient and reliable way to power and cool its data center while reducing energy use and emissions. Capstone Green Energy provided its Hybrid UPS Microturbine technology, a mission-critical onsite power solution that combines low-emission microturbines with a dual-conversion UPS.

Capstone Green Energy’s solution used four C65 Hybrid UPS Microturbines to deliver combined cooling, heating, and power for the data center and nearby facility. The system was expected to supply 100% of the data center’s critical electric and cooling needs, achieve 85–90% overall system efficiency, cut data center power consumption by 50%, and reduce carbon emissions by more than 50% while improving reliability and replacing the existing backup generator.
