A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Towcester Leisure Centre, part of Parkwood Leisure in Northamptonshire, needed a more efficient way to meet the varied power and heating demands of its gym, studios, pools, sports hall, and 3G pitches while also reducing energy costs and emissions. Vendor Capstone Green Energy partnered with distributor Pure World Energy to design an on-site combined heat and power (CHP) system for the facility.
Capstone Green Energy installed a single Capstone C65 microturbine in an external enclosure connected to the center’s main power and heating distribution. The system now supplies about 50% of the site’s power needs, generating 356,000 kWh of electricity and 680,000 kWh of heat annually, while operating quietly at 5 dBA at 10 meters. According to the case study, the solution delivers annual energy savings of 7–12% with zero capital investment and reduces carbon emissions by about 150 metric tons per year.
