A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Swinline Farm, a commercial pig farm in Cullinan, South Africa, needed a way to manage wastewater, reduce strong odors, and cut energy costs while handling methane-rich biogas from its 1,000-sow operation. Capstone Green Energy’s microturbine technology was a fit for the farm’s need for cleaner, more efficient onsite power generation.
Capstone Green Energy installed a 65-kilowatt CR65 Capstone MicroTurbine with a Dual Mode Controller to convert biogas from a covered anaerobic lagoon into electricity for the farm. The system helped Swinline Farm reduce odor by up to 80%, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and cut utility electricity use by about 30% to 35%, while providing reliable power for heating, pumping, and ventilation.
