Surgital, the Italian pasta maker based in Ravenna, needed a way to keep pace with growing demand while lowering energy costs and supporting its commitment to environmental stewardship. To improve its onsite trigeneration plant, the company turned to Capstone Green Energy and its Italian distributor, IBT Group, for a more efficient combined heat and power solution.

Capstone Green Energy installed a natural gas-fueled C600 microturbine system with a hot water heat exchanger, steam generator with duct burner, and ammonia absorption chiller. The upgraded plant now produces electricity, steam, hot water, and chilled water for Surgital’s operations, cutting utility costs by about €180,000 per year, saving 200 TOE annually, avoiding roughly 563 tons of CO2, and improving overall facility efficiency by 30%.
