A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Sungawa Clean Plaza Kurukuru, a waste-processing center in Hokkaido, Japan, needed a reliable way to turn decomposed kitchen waste into usable energy while also managing the heat required for its bioreactor process. Capstone Green Energy provided the microturbine solution, using onsite methane gas as fuel.
Capstone Green Energy installed four C30 microturbines that generate 120 kW of electricity to run the facility, while their clean exhaust heat keeps the bioreactor tank at a steady 55°C (131°F). The recovered heat is also used to melt snow on city streets and heat nearby buildings, and the low-maintenance system has operated for more than 25,000 hours since installation in 2003.
