Sauk County Landfill - Customer Case Study

Sauk County Landfill in Madison, Wisconsin, needed a cleaner way to manage methane gas produced by decomposing waste at its 20-acre landfill site. Instead of simply flaring the gas, the landfill partnered with Capstone Green Energy and its microturbine technology to put the renewable energy to use.

Capstone Green Energy installed 24 C30 methane-powered microturbines that capture landfill gas and convert it into electricity sold back to the utility. The system now generates enough power for over 300 homes, has expanded from an initial 12 units in 2003, and provides lower emissions while creating revenue for Sauk County Landfill.
