REIT Energy - Customer Case Study

REIT Energy, one of Canada’s largest real estate investment trusts, needed a portfolio-worthy energy solution to improve reliability, reduce operating costs, and support critical backup power across its multi-residential properties. In partnership with Capstone Green Energy and dealer Vergent Power Solutions, the REIT looked to a combined heat and power (CHP) approach using Capstone microturbines.

Capstone Green Energy implemented a CHP system at a North York apartment building using four dual-mode C65 ICHP microturbines, replacing a traditional genset. The system generates more than 1.9 million kWh annually, cuts electricity use by 58%, delivers over 80% total system efficiency, and has reduced overall energy costs by 24%—about CAD $168,000 in annual savings—with a payback expected in about five years.
