Petroleos Mexicanos (pemex) - Customer Case Study

Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the world's fourth-largest crude oil producer, required a highly reliable and clean power solution for its 27 offshore oil platforms in the harsh, corrosive environment of Campeche Bay. Their existing diesel generators were high-maintenance and incapable of surviving these conditions. To meet this challenge, PEMEX turned to Capstone Green Energy and its microturbines, which are specially designed for hazardous locations.

Capstone Green Energy implemented a solution using 46 of its microturbines, ranging from 30kW to 65kW models, to provide prime power. These units reliably operate on the platforms' own sour and wellhead gas, safely powering critical systems including SCADA, communications, and emergency shutdowns. The result was a continuous, clean power supply that supported PEMEX's peak production of 2.5 million barrels per day. The success of the solution led to an $8.6 million service order in 2011 to ensure ongoing support for the entire microturbine fleet.
