A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU), one of the largest credit unions in Pennsylvania, needed a cleaner, more efficient, and highly reliable power solution for its 239,000-square-foot LEED Gold-certified headquarters and data center in Harrisburg. To meet its energy, cooling, and backup power needs while keeping construction on schedule and budget, PSECU worked with Capstone Green Energy and local distributor E-Finity Distributed Generation on a natural gas trigeneration CCHP system using the Capstone C800 Dual Mode Power Package.
Capstone Green Energy implemented a Capstone C800 microturbine system with hot water heat exchangers, a 250-ton exhaust-fired absorption chiller, and mTIM PLC control with remote monitoring. The solution provides 800 kW of clean, reliable power, supports the data center UPS, delivers heating and cooling, and enables dual-mode operation with the grid. The project reduces carbon emissions by 1,468 tons per year, provides 24/7 remote monitoring and backup power, and helped PSECU earn LEED Gold certification while supplying surplus clean energy back to the grid during peak periods.
