Oregon Health & Science University - Customer Case Study

Oregon Health & Science University worked to create The Center for Health & Healing in Portland as a highly efficient, LEED Platinum medical facility that could meet demanding energy, sustainability, and operational goals. Capstone Green Energy provided five C60 Capstone ICHP microturbines for a combined heat and power (CHP) application to help the building generate reliable onsite power while supporting its heating needs.

Capstone Green Energy’s microturbines were integrated into the building’s central utility plant to supply about one-third of its electrical load and capture waste heat for hot water and space heating. The solution helped the 400,000-square-foot building achieve 49% better energy efficiency than required by Oregon code, cut annual CO2 emissions by 1.26 million pounds (630 tons), and reduce sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions by about 38%, delivering major cost and environmental benefits.
