A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Margaritaville Vacation Club by Wyndham, a beachside off-grid resort in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, needed a resilient and cost-effective power solution to reduce energy costs, avoid dependence on an unreliable utility grid, and support future expansion. Capstone Green Energy, working with Triton Energy and distributor E-Finity Distributed Generation, provided a modular microturbine-based power plant using Capstone microturbines and propane fuel.
Capstone Green Energy implemented an on-site system starting with a C1000R microturbine and later adding a C800R, backed by remote monitoring and a long-term factory protection plan. The solution now delivers up to 1,800 kW, 99.9997% uptime, and roughly half the cost of local utility power, generating over $6 million in energy savings while cutting emissions by 5,000 carbon tons and sustaining the resort through Hurricane Irma and extended outages.
