Lloret de Mar - Customer Case Study

Lloret de Mar, a municipal wastewater treatment plant in Girona, Spain, needed a reliable way to handle heavy summer demand while reducing energy costs, emissions, and dependence on the grid. Capstone Green Energy provided a biogas-fueled cogeneration solution using C65 microturbines paired with heat recovery and solar PV to improve efficiency at the facility.

Capstone Green Energy installed two C65 microturbines, a 122 kW heat recovery unit, PLC remote monitoring, and a 5 kW photovoltaic pergola to create a hybrid energy system. The plant now generates 1,048 MWh of electricity and recovers 1,773 MWh of heat annually at 78% overall efficiency, with an estimated 3.7-year payback, a 26.41% IRR, and 199 tons of CO2 emissions avoided each year.
