La Ciotat Landfill - Customer Case Study

La Ciotat Landfill, located in La Ciotat, France, wanted to turn methane gas from decomposing waste into a useful energy source instead of continuing to flare it. The landfill faced the challenge of producing power from aging landfill gas with low methane content, and needed a solution that could operate efficiently on biogas.

Capstone Green Energy provided 18 CR65 Capstone Microturbines as part of a self-sustaining onsite power plant. The system generates about 1MW of clean electricity each day, enough to power around 1,000 French homes, and has recorded more than 34,000 hours of continuous operation. Compared with reciprocating engines, the Capstone Green Energy solution produces less than half the emissions and avoids oil, coolants, and other hazardous materials.
