Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia - Customer Case Study

Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia, a five-star luxury hotel in downtown Philadelphia, needed a way to better control rising energy costs and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions while meeting heavy demands for electricity, hot water, heating, laundry, and other operations. The hotel turned to Capstone Green Energy and E-Finity Distributed Generation for an onsite power solution using Capstone microturbines.

Capstone Green Energy installed three C65 ICHP natural-gas microturbines with heat recovery modules in a CHP configuration on the hotel’s roof. The system now provides about 195 kW of electricity, 100% of domestic hot water, 30% of electrical needs, and 15% of heating needs, while delivering more than 1.2 million BTU/hour of recovered thermal energy. The hotel reported more than US$80,000 in cost avoidance in the first two months, electricity costs about 20% below utility power, ultra-low emissions, and a quiet, space-saving installation.
