Felsineo Mortadella - Customer Case Study

Felsineo Mortadella, a leading mortadella producer in Bologna, Italy, needed to upgrade its power generation at its primary manufacturing facility to support increased steam demand, improve operational efficiency, and reduce its carbon footprint. Capstone Green Energy, working through its Italian distributor IBT Group, provided a microturbine-led combined heat and power solution using a Capstone C1000 microturbine.

Capstone Green Energy installed a natural gas-fueled C1000 microturbine with a gas compressor and post-combustion steam generator to recover exhaust heat and produce saturated steam for sausage making. The system met Felsineo’s electrical and thermal needs with full 1 MW power output and steam at 10 bar, delivering over 80% overall efficiency, about €300,000 in annual savings, 170 TOE of energy savings per year, and roughly 478 tons of CO2 avoided annually.
