A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Evangelische Diakonissenanstalt Hospital Augsburg, a 135-bed hospital in south-west Bavaria, needed a more efficient way to generate steam for its central sterilization and kitchen while updating its energy infrastructure. The hospital worked with Capstone Green Energy and evaluated several options before choosing a combined heat and power (CHP) solution using Capstone C65 MicroTurbines.
Capstone Green Energy installed two 65kW natural gas microturbines with a heat exchanger to produce electricity, steam, and hot water for the hospital and its wider medical campus. The system achieves more than 80% efficiency, generates about 800,000 kWh annually, and saves the hospital roughly €130,000 per year in energy costs, while also reducing emissions and maintenance needs.
