A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Dryden Regional Health Centre, a 42-bed rural hospital in Northwestern Ontario, needed to rein in rapidly rising utility costs and reduce dependence on provincial and hydro-based power. Working with Capstone Green Energy, the hospital looked for a reliable, efficient energy solution that could perform in a remote setting with harsh winter conditions.
Capstone Green Energy, through distributor Vergent Power Solutions, installed a cogeneration system with four C65 ICHP microturbines, remote monitoring, and a 15-year Factory Protection Plan. The system now supplies both electricity and heat, reducing electricity usage by 80%, saving about $175,000 CAD per year, and delivering an average total system efficiency of 80% LHV; with a $263,000 incentive, it is expected to pay for itself in five years.
