A Capstone Green Energy Case Study
Deen Shipping, a Dutch inland shipping operator, needed a way to run its new dual-fuel Type C tanker, MTS Argonon, in compliance with strict CCNR emissions requirements while reducing fuel use, maintenance, and environmental impact. To support its clean-and-green vessel concept, it worked with Capstone Green Energy and Pon Power to integrate microturbine technology into the ship’s power system.
Capstone Green Energy supplied two C30 liquid natural gas microturbines for onboard auxiliary power in an N+1 configuration, along with heat exchangers and an absorption chiller to capture waste heat for water, LNG vaporization, heating, and cooling. The solution delivered extremely low NOx and particulate emissions, no lubricant-related surface water pollution, low noise and vibration, and reduced maintenance and operating costs, helping MTS Argonon operate efficiently on the Rhine River with a lower carbon footprint.
